Brand New Project – Soul Cupcake

Over the past 9 months updates on the website have been a little sparse and that is due to the all-consuming effort that setting up an 8-piece funk/soul/fusion takes.

‘Soul Cupcake’ is a brand new band for which I have written several brand new charts and re-arranged other classic songs.  Featuring Rocky Loprevite on vocals, a 4-piece rhythm section and a 3-piece horn section this band is nothing short of amazing!

Whilst still very much in its infancy the band had its first ever gig on Thursday 12th September at Dizzy’s Jazz Club.

Go to the ‘Videos’ menu on this website to check out ‘Soul Cupcake’ in action!

These rough videos hope to give you some idea of where the band is heading in the future.

If you like what you see get on down to Dizzy’s Jazz Club on Thursday 28th November to hear the band in action once more!!

Soul Cupcake – Brand New Project

Soul cupcake poster 1 (flat)aaaGet on down to Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Thursday 12th Sept to catch the landmark event of Soul Cupcake’s first ever gig!!   This 8-piece fusion/funk/soul band features cutting-edge groove-driven originals and warped re-arrangements of popular songs.   This truly original band channels the zietgiest of bands such as The Bamboos, Tower Of Power, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Snarky Puppy and D.I.G. and spits it all out the other end in a whirlwind of horn-driven electricity.

Rocky Loprevite – vocals   Daimon Brunton – trumpet   Ron Romero – alto sax   Greg Day – bari sax   Adam Rudegaire – keyboard   Adam Orlando – guitar   Darryl Barron – bass   Peter Kahoun – drums

General News

Our feature gig at The SheppARTon Arts Festival couldn’t have gone better. A packed house of attentive ears gave a hearty nod to the new tunes (yet to be recorded) that will make it onto the upcoming album .. ‘A Jazz Odyssey’.

If you are in Melbourne and would like to check out the revamped line-up and brand new tunes head on down to Open Studio, 204 High St, Northcote this Sunday (17th March) and next Sunday (24th March) from 5:00pm – 7:30pm.

The new originals are brand new in every way but do take a moment to ‘dip their hat’ to Freddie Hubbard and Terence Blanchard. More tuneful and complex than the tunes featured on ‘Wah Sa’ but still with the electric intensity featured on that release.

Hope to catch you Open Studio over the next two Sundays.
